Leading Restaurant Chain

Moorfields were appointed to oversee the orderly wind-down and closure of five restaurants located across the Greater London area.

The restaurant group had faced sustained trading pressures due to rising operational costs, reduced footfall, and market saturation within the casual dining sector. Following a strategic review, it was determined that continued trading was no longer viable, and an orderly closure and asset realisation process was the most effective route to protect creditor interests.

Objectives

  • Manage the structured closure of five restaurant sites while minimising disruption and liabilities
  • Dispose of stock, fixtures, fittings, and leasehold interests to maximise realisations
  • Ensure compliance with employment, health and safety, and landlord obligations during the wind-down
  • Reduce ongoing costs and exposure through timely termination of leases and contracts
  • Deliver an efficient exit strategy that preserved value for stakeholders

Moorfields’ Actions

  • Took immediate control of the five restaurant sites, coordinating closures in a controlled and compliant manner
  • Conducted an inventory and valuation of all stock, fixtures, fittings, and leasehold interests
  • Managed the disposal of restaurant assets through targeted sales to trade buyers and auction processes
  • Negotiated with landlords to surrender leasehold properties efficiently and mitigate future liabilities
  • Oversaw all employee redundancies and statutory obligations, ensuring a compliant and orderly process

Results

  • All five restaurant sites were successfully closed in an orderly manner with minimal disruption
  • The sale of stock, fixtures, and fittings generated strong realisations against valuation
  • Leasehold properties were surrendered efficiently, limiting ongoing exposure and costs
  • The orderly wind-down was completed smoothly, maximising recoveries for creditors and allowing the business to exit operations responsibly
