Moorfields appointed Administrators over Farm in Yorkshire as poultry farmers continue to struggle

Tight welfare directives and erratic retail behaviour are taking their toll on poultry farmers across the UK.

Eggs and Co group, based in Yorkshire, was placed into administration on Tuesday the 12 June 2012.

Simon Thomas and Robert Pick, of Moorfields Corporate Recovery LLP, have been appointed as Joint Administrators.

The farm will continue to trade whilst the administrators try to find a buyer for the business.

Eggs and Co was a successful free range farm, purchased in 2009 which has benefited from capital investment since its acquisition.

Despite the EU battery hen ban which saw the price and demand for free range eggs increase, the business was struggling to recover from historic poor demand and reduced margins as a result of pressure on pricing.

In addition Moorfields were appointed Fixed Charge Receivers over multiple residential properties, agricultural land and buildings located in the Home Counties.

Moorfields keen to find buyer

“With planning permission to double the flock size, recent EU legislation changes and the possibility of retaining key customers we believe the well established business could be a great opportunity for the right buyer” said Simon Thomas, Partner of Moorfields Corporate Recovery LLP.

Any interested parties should contact Victoria Kennedy at Moorfields Corporate Recovery LLP on 0207 186 1144 for further details.
