Profile

Simon qualified with a small city firm, Dearden Farrow before joining Touche Ross in their insolvency department in 1985. After five years he transferred to their Bristol office and returned to London with Horwath Clarke Whitehill in 1999 where he worked with Phil Smith. The firm was acquired by Tenon and he left to form a new firm with Phil Smith, the firm initially traded as RSM Bentley Jennison & Co and in December 2009 the firm was rebranded as Moorfields Corporate Recovery.

Simon has specialised in Corporate work typically acting for secured creditors both in an advisory capacity and in accepting formal insolvency appointments. He has been instructed by a variety of financial institutions including Banks, Asset Based Lenders, VCTs and Private Equity investors.

Experience and skills
Simon has considerable experience in the manufacturing sector, from automotive to carpets as well as experience and dealing with service Companies.

He has a particular expertise in the licensed sector dealing with pubs, night clubs, hotels and other leisure businesses. This has involved trading LPA receiverships and we have accepted over twenty -five appointments of this type since we started the firm. More recently he has been dealing with a variety of property related matters.

He now focuses on the mid-market specialising in businesses turning over £10m to £100m with a secured lender involvement.

  • Devon based shipbuilder 600 staff; employees launched a sit in before our appointment and much PR to coincide with Labour Party Conference.
  • ISL Group of Companies UK arm of ISL the FIFA marketing agency - dealt with film rights to World Cup Tournaments.
  • Candlemaker £25m turnover, 15 branches throughout the UK.
  • Chemical plant £30m turnover, chemical plant in Castleford. 300 acre site, 400staff, £11m secured debt.
  • Steel mill South Wales based steel mill. £100m turnover and 450 employees.
  • Carpet manufacturer Carpet manufacturer based in Barnsley, 200 employees, £25m turnover.
  • Pressings company Metal pressing company. 170 staff, £30m turnover, supplying Jaguar/Ford/GM.
  • German Nickel company Transfer of Comi from German to UK. Coin manufacturing company based in Ruhr, CVA in Germany. Bond holder owed £300m.
  • Midlands based forging company £18m turnover-forging co supplying Land Rover, Jaguar etc.
