Profile
Profile Simon originally trained as a Chartered Accountant with Langton Morland in Liverpool. In 1996 he joined the Corporate Recovery department of Ernst & Young, London where he was a manager in the Liquidations and Strategic Exit Routes section advising on and undertaking liquidations and restructurings. Simon also worked on overseas assignments in Switzerland and Romania.
Simon has also worked for Baker Tilly in the British Virgin Islands where he headed the Corporate Recovery department.
Experience and skills
Simon has worked on a variety of corporate recovery assignments including both formal appointments and advisory work. He has worked on assignments in many industries including financial services and on many jobs with cross border issues. Simon’s experience includes investigation into complex frauds, using the powers of insolvency practitioners to obtain information and seeking restitution for the benefit of creditors.
While working in the British Virgin Islands Simon was licensed to act as an Insolvency Practitioner and was appointed as Liquidator to over 130 companies in both solvent and insolvency liquidations, including mutual funds and insurance companies.
Selected Projects
- Receivership of furniture retailer. Syndicate of 50 banks owed over £80million. Managed portfolio of c30 subsidiaries and successfully maximised realisations by use of innovative tax structures.
- Investment Trusts. Worked on liquidations of Investment Trusts including rollovers into new vehicles by using s110 schemes.
- Valuation of retail group. Reported to interim managers on estimated outcome if world’s largest shoe repair business were to close down, thereby providing information to support application for further funding to allow time for an orderly sale of the group.
- Liquidation of UK arm of European investment group. Liquidations of two companies involved in pan European fraud, including investigations into work performed by auditors leading to successful settlement of negligence claim and recovery for creditors.
- Global Premier Reinsurance. Appointed liquidator of reinsurance company by the BVI High Court, the first reinsurance to be liquidated in the BVI under the BVI Insolvency Act 2003.
- Property Fraud. Investigation into group used to fraudulently obtain £650million of loans used to purchase UK properties, including working with Serious Fraud Office.
